Derrick Savage

As a child of a military veteran, I have had opportunity to live in and see many different parts of the beautiful world God created. My life on earth began in Germany, and my family and I lived coast to coast during my dad's seven duty assignments while growing up. I feel so blessed to have experienced the Lord's body in so many different places growing up and many of those members I still have connections with today and they have been a great influence upon my spiritual life. I was baptized and the Lord added me to His church while living in California in 1980.  Our family finally landed in Huntsville, AL which is where I spent my high school years before coming to Starkville to attend Mississippi State University beginning in 1989.  I received my degree in Electrical Engineering and have worked in my professional career in Starkville ever since. I met my wife Susan on her first Sunday at MSU in the UCSC Bible class (taught by Johnie Jenkins) and we went on our first date 2 days later. Three years later we were married and have shared many wonderful years together here in Starkville where we raised our three children - Jessica, Sydney, Bradley. Each of them, along with their spouses, graduated from MSU and were part of the UCSC and blessed by the ministry of this congregation.

During our time here I have been involved in teaching classes, directing summer camp, serving as a deacon beginning in 2004 in the areas of Prayer, Involvement, Education, and Youth and Family before  being asked to serve as a Shepherd in April 2014.  I have been blessed to serve alongside my fellow shepherds and I have learned so much from the knowledge and wisdom that these men share. Starkville and this congregation truly are home and family.

One of my favorite passages of scripture is:  Colossians 3:23-24  "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving."
