Most of us have been blessed with the gift of sight. That gift of vision is something that allows us to take in so many parts of the world. Vision allows us be watchful for things that our coming at us and are potentially harmful and allow us to move out of their way. Vision also allows us to see the good things around us and be drawn to them - beauty in nature, goodness in people, and opportunities to help and serve others. Unfortunately for many of us, as we age that vision becomes clouded and blurry and the finer details of what is before us begins to fade. And so to keep things in focus, we seek a doctor’s care and help to prescribe some aides that keep our vision clear.

Our spiritual lives have some great similarities. Without clear vision and direction of how we see the world around us, many aspects of life fade and become blurry. This can lead to spiritual wandering, meandering, and stumbling into trouble. So, we need to make sure that we keep our spiritual eyes in focus to make sure that we are able to avoid the landmines that Satan plants around us but also to recognize all of the good opportunities that the Lord has set before us.

Several years ago the elders set forth a vision for our congregation with the goal of being like-minded in our spirit of cooperation and collective service to the Lord as a church body. We believe that this *vision* is the lens that helps us to stay focused together and to see and act upon the opportunities that the Lord places before us and also to help us be prepared for the trouble that Satan most assuredly will try and create for us. So I encourage you to consider each of the components of this vision for the Starkville church and see how each of you can direct the many good things in your life to work together one another for us all to move in a common direction.

Vision for the Starkville church of Christ

As God’s people we desire to:

Seek and save (Luke 19:10)
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Grow to maturity (Hebrews 6:1)
“Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity,
not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God.”

Devote ourselves to prayer (Colossians 4:2)
“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”

Worship in Spirit and truth (John 4:24)
“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and truth.”

Unite as Family (Romans 12:5)
“So in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”
